Technology, Content & Design – Website Relaunch Benefits Clients and Employees

As an international market leader, the relaunch of the Kistler Group's internet presence is of interest around the globe. Usability is not only key for creating a pleasant user experience, but also for Kistler's employees. Its old website, as well as the product and data management, were all based on different software systems. Because of dependencies among the various software systems, the synchronization and especially the publishing of content and products was a complex and time-consuming task. The whole system architecture was unstable to some extent, and the complicated processes called for a thorough optimization.

The W4 was in charge of the complete website relaunch. All illustrations and animations were realized by our multimedia department. The majority of content is based on interviews that we have conducted at Kistler's headquarters with individual product managers. To familiarize Kistler's employees with this new technology, we have also conducted training on TYPO3, the product information, and statistics tools.

The solution

Within a short period of time, W4 has conducted a thorough relaunch of the website. In doing so, the following points were especially important: 

  • Improving user experience: The new website was optimized for leads, existing clients, and an overall B2B audience.
  • Improving internal processes and workflows: A unified and simplified management of the website and its content for product managers and the digital communication team was put in place. Publishing new content or editing existing content is now greatly accelerated.
  • Current and high-consequence content: By publishing regularly new and relevant content, the website generates new and returning visitors.
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Every aspect of the site is optimized for search engines.
  • Clear structures: The new website reduces the complexity of content to a minimum. An optimized product structure guarantees that visitors find the content they look for in a few clicks.
  • Visual language: A modern and appealing visual language orients the reader and transmits additional information.
  • Multimedia content: The new website supplements the high-quality text content with 3D animations and videos. This increases the user experience. Complex subjects are elucidated in a user-friendly way.
  • Accessibility: The new website excels with high accessibility and fast performance.
  • Performance reporting: The websites automatically gather important analysis and statistical data on various levels (product, application, and company level). The data is used to further optimize the website.
  • Mobile web: The website was mobile optimized so that the content can be displayed on every screen size.  
In order to meet VP Bank's high standards, W4 developed a tool that automatically uploads IDML files to TYPO3. This way, we could ensure that the layout of the print edition was faithfully reproduced online.

The technology

The technical infrastructure's core component is an innovative, process-optimized dashboard. The dashboard serves as a centralized gateway and supplies general and process-optimized modules. Three central, interlocking components come together here:

  • Content Management System
  • Product Information System
  • Statistics Platform 

The dashboard furthermore has interfaces for the document management platform SharePoint and the multimedia data bank Celum. Moreover, news, events, jobs, sales contacts, locations, downloads, and frontend users are all managed and published with the dashboard. 

Individual users' workflows are displayed functionally, which greatly simplifies the overall usability. At the same time, various work packages are linked to each other so that editing times are minimized. The dashboard can be enhanced at will. With this, special client requirements can be integrated into the modular architecture.
